Dr. Potts Meets with Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care Leaders in Massachusetts

From May 23 through May 27 Cognitive Dynamics President Daniel C. Potts, MD gave a series of lectures in the Boston, Massachusetts area emphasizing the benefits of expressive arts therapies as an important element in person-centered, life-affirming dementia care.  He lectured at the Boston University School of Medicine to trainees in the Neurology Residency Program and met with Anna Hohler, MD, member of the Movement Disorders faculty, Chair of the American Academy of Neurology’s Brain PAC, and Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology.  He also lectured at Boston University’s Quincy Medical Center, and met with Anil Nair, MD, an international leader in Alzheimer’s research with a special interest in early pre-clinical disease identification through MRI and PET scanning utilizing biomarkers.  Dr. Potts atended a “Lunch and Learn” sponsored by the Hearthstone Alzheimer’s Foundation in which the founder of that group, author John Zeisel, PhD (“I’m Still Here”) was the speaker.  Dr. Potts later met extensively with Dr. Zeisel and toured the Hearthstone offices in Woburn, MA.  Furthermore, Dr. Potts shared the podium with Hearthstone Foundation’s “ARTZ: Artists for Alzheimer’s” co-founder and Creative Director Sean Caulfield at Atria Marina Place in North Quincy, MA.  A care giver conference was also held at the St. Francis Rehabilitation Center in Worcester, MA where Dr. Potts was the keynote speaker.  The event was sponsored by the Worcester, MA franchise of BrightStar Healthcare, David Price, owner.  Angel Duncan, Director of Art therapy and advisory board member of Cognitive Dynamics, was also in attendance and offered insights on the benefits of art therapy in demented individuals.
